Chairman’s Reserve 1931 rum from St. Lucia Distillers was made as a tribute to the founder, Denis Barnard, and the year he established the distillery, 1931. A sweet and smoky limited-edition blended rum from St Lucia Distillers, Chairman’s Reserve 1931 has been matured in a combination of ex-bourbon casks and ex-port casks, for at least six years. Sweet aromas of honeyed raisins and baking spices are balanced by toasty oak, leather and tobacco. The palate offers notes of rich sultanas, crème caramel, buttery toast, sweet grass and spicy oak.
Sugarcane first arrived in St Lucia in the 1700s, with the thriving rum trade close on its heels. By the 1950s, however, most Caribbean rum producing islands had slowed their pace, and St Lucia was no exception. The last operating distillery now remains in Roseau, uniting the island’s rums under one banner: St Lucia Distillers Group.
TASTE NOTES: A seamless blend of Coffey and pot still rums aged from 6 to 11 years in Bourbon and Port casks, the Chairman’s Reserve Limited Edition 1931 is a tribute to the philosophy and craft established at the original Dennery distillery that eventually became part of St. Lucia Distillers. The majority of the blend comes from traditional molasses rum, while a bright, grassy character is contributed by distillate from fresh sugarcane grown in the fields adjacent to the distillery. Notes of honeyed raisins, oak, and crème caramel are followed by hints of leather, tobacco, and coffee bean.

On May 2nd 2007 St. Lucia Distillers was struck by a major fire which destroyed our administration and blending facility. Mercifully most of our distillery was spared but we suffered great problems with storage space for our casks. In the melee that followed our cellar master, Mr. Cyril Mangal, was forced to find space for ageing casks in the most unusual places. Having done so the cellar team had a memory lapse and forgot the casks.
The Forgotten Casks of Chairman’s Reserve is an extra aged sipping rum crafted to mimic rum found in the original forgotten casks of Chairman’s Reserve, which were preserved from St. Lucia Distillers horrific fire on May 2, 2007. The cellar master was forced to find appropriate however unusual storage space for his rum barrels during the rehabilitation of the distillery, and these casks were barrels misplaced during this time of confusion. These forgotten casks gave him rum too old for the original Chairman’s Reserve blend, so it was decided this rum would be released on its own, as an extra aged Chairman’s Reserve to worldwide acclaim. St. Lucia Distillers continues to hold back select Chairman’s Reserve for extra aging to offer a limited release of the Chairman’s Forgotten Casks.
